Who we are

The Hikurangi Museum is a local museum about the history of Hikurangi and the region. We are located in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland), 15 kilometers north of Whangārei.

Where we are

1 Alfred St, Hikurangi.

The Hikurangi Museum is in the heart of Hikurangi village, which is just 10 minutes North of Whangārei, and a 2 min detour from State Highway One.

Turn into Hikurangi from State Highway One. The museum is located right beside the Hikurangi Firestation.

Opening Hours

Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from 10am to 11.30am

Extended opening hours during summer months (Saturdays 10am to 1pm).

We also open by appointment. Contact us through our online contact form to arrange a visit outside of our usual open days and times.

The museum is closed in January 2026 to complete collections management and conservation work.

Entry Fees

Entry – Gold coin donation per person

For arranged visits outside of usual opening hours – $5 per person

Visit us and make a day of it. There are plenty of opportunities to get something to eat and drink in our village and many other historic sites to visit nearby.
